Avondale Campaign To Encourage Residents To Produce Less Waste

Avondale is launching a campaign called One-Less to encourage and inform residents about producing less waste. It kicks off Oct. 21.

The campaign is a five-day challenge where residents will be asked to reduce their waste in different ways, including not using plastic bags or straws.

The city is trying to spread awareness to the community and limit contribution to landfills.

Hether Krause, the Environmental and Sustainability program manager with the city of Avondale, said “landfill space is of concern especially with the change in the recycling commodities and how were not able to get a lot of our recyclable materials to be recycled because of the change in the market."

Krause said the city plans to run this campaign annually and hopes residents think twice about using nonreusable materials.
