The Justice Department has awarded more than $7.6 million for victim services and public safety to several tribes in Arizona.
The eight tribes in Arizona that will benefit from the grant include the Navajo and Hopi nations, as well as the Salt River and Gila River Indian communities, the Pascua Yaqui and Quechan Indian Tribes, and the San Carlos and Yavapai Apache Nations.
“The grants will help our tribal partners combat violent crimes and domestic abuse, and provide expanded services for the victims of these crimes,” said Michael Bailey, U.S. attorney for Arizona.
The grants will also fund youth programs and sex-offender registration programs on the reservations, which are under federal jurisdiction.
