Cities Look To Private Businesses To Handle Recycling

China's revamped recycling policies, which includes no longer buying tons of U.S. materials, have led to dramatic shifts in the way some cities approach recycling.

Mesa and Surprise are just two places that had to make significant changes within its recycling programs and figure out what to do with all the plastic that China won’t be taking off their hands.

One option is to turn to business like Intel, which has been developing innovative recycling ideas for a long time.

Taimur Burki is waste and recycling manager at Intel, where he’s worked for more than 20 years. He is one of the keynote speakers at this week’s WASTECON, a massive conference taking place this week in Phoenix.

The Show spoke with Burki about the future of recycling.
