Mohave County Has Highest Suicide Rates In Arizona

A new report on suicide in Arizona shows the northwestern part of the state has the highest rates per capita.

The Arizona Violent Death Reporting System studied all reported suicides in Arizona from 2015 to 2017 — that overall number was 3,678 during that time frame. The analysis found Mohave County led the state in suicides per capita.

The report from Arizona State University’s Center for Violence Prevention and Community Safety also underscores the role domestic violence plays as 1 in 4 suicides is attributed to intimate partner violence.

Charles Katz, criminology and criminal justice professor, is the center’s director. He joined The Show to put the numbers into perspective.
