EPCOR Representatives: Johnson Utilities Is Running Out Of Money

The interim manager for Johnson Utilities said water pressure has been improving throughout its service area in the San Tan Valley, but cash flow is a different story.

Representatives for EPCOR told the Arizona Corporation Commission that they are making progress but not as quickly as they had hoped.

After the Corporation Commission appointed the company to take over Johnson’s operations in 2018, it has been up to EPCOR to try and restore water and sewer systems to current customers and prepare for new growth in the area.

Troy Day with EPCOR said it hoped two have two new wells online by early 2020 to allow for more water meter hookups.

"But without any funding we may need to push this meter management program back a little bit,” Day said.

Day and others told the Corporation Commission on Tuesday that former owner George Johnson was interfering in the process by stopping checks to contractors.

EPCOR said without substantially raising new hookup fees the company would be losing money by March 2020.
