2 Dead, Homes, Cars Burned During Agua Prieta Shootout

Five months after a deadly firefight rocked Agua Prieta, another incident Monday morning has claimed lives in the Sonoran city just south of Douglas.

Two people were killed and another injured after the early morning shootout in the city. Two homes and several cars were also burned, according to the state’s Mesa de Seguridad, or security roundtable.

In response, state and federal forces — including the Mexican Army and National Guard — will be sent to reinforce local law enforcement.

The shooting started around 3:15 a.m., according to a post on the city’s Facebook page. Several vehicles were also found riddled with bullet holes, according to another post.

In the June shootout, five people were killed in Agua Prieta, along with another four in nearby Naco, Sonora.
