A week ahead of Veterans Day, Gov. Doug Ducey announced he is restoring a tuition assistance program for Arizona’s National Guard members that was scrapped amid last decade’s Great Recession.
He told troops at the Phoenix base on Monday that lawmakers are restoring $1 million to the tuition reimbursement program to help members who complete at least a semester at a Veterans Affairs-approved college or vocational school.
"Today I want every citizen-soldier and airman to know that Arizona is grateful for your service,” Ducey told the troops. “We're honored to support you in this way and I want to say thank you on behalf of the governor, and God bless."
Eligible members can get up to $250 per credit hour, totaling $4,000 a year.
Other requirements include being an active member of the Arizona National Guard the entire semester and maintaining at least a C grade in each course.
