Study investigates the effects of screen time on young children

Lots of parents debate how much screen time is appropriate for their kids, and worry about the effects too much screen time could have. Now, a new study provides some answers, as it relates to brain development.

The research finds preschoolers exposed to more screen time see impacts in the part of the brain that supports language and literacy skills.

Dr. John Hutton was the lead author of the study, he's the director of the Reading and Literacy Discovery Center at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. He said this is the first pass at observing the effects of screen time on little kids.

Hutton joined The Show to talk about this research.
