Officials from the Arizona Game and Fish Department are looking for someone who set an illegal trap that maimed a javelina near Tucson.
Spokesman Mark Hart says the leg-hold trap made the javelina suffer for two weeks before it could be found and euthanized.
“Leg hold traps have been illegal in Arizona for some time," said Hart. "They’re spring loaded, and when an animal steps in it, it’s trapped by its leg. Someone had set it out, and the javelina investigated the bait, and the trap closed on its snout. Its suffering was terrible, it was emaciated because it couldn’t eat with a trap on its snout.”
The Game and Fish Department is offering a $1,500 reward for information leading to an arrest.
