The Mohave County Board of Supervisors unanimously declared the county a "Second Amendment Sanctuary County" — meaning the board won’t authorize county resources to "enforce laws that unconstitutionally infringe on the people's right to keep and bear arms."
This comes after Mohave County was identified as having the highest per-capita rate of suicides in the state, according to an Arizona State University study. Firearms were used in 60% of all suicides statewide.
The board’s vote isn’t the first of its kind. four states and dozens of counties and cities across the country have passed similar resolutions.
