The district superintendent of Mesa Public Schools has been placed on paid administrative leave.
The district's board unanimously voted on the action Monday in a special meeting but has not given a reason for the decision.
Board President Elaine Miner says the leave is "non-disciplinary."
"We want you to know that this is something we have been working hard and diligently to do the right thing. And this is, of course, our focus," said Miner.
Superintendent Ember Conley has served in her role since 2018. Her contract runs through 2021.
Mesa is the state's largest school district.
