If you want to board an airplane this time next year, your Arizona driver’s license won't cut it. Arizona's Motor Vehicle Division is using the busy holiday travel season to remind travelers of the upcoming change of rules.
Representatives from Arizona's MVD will be stationed at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport during peak travel times in coming weeks. The goal is to inform travelers of tightening airport security standards that will kick in Oct. 1, 2020.
"The road warrior, the person who's on a plane a couple times a month, probably already knows about this," said Doug Nick with the MVD. "But it's the leisure traveler that we're really thinking about, so we're doing multiple strategies to reach multiple audiences with this message."
If your ID has a gold star on the top-right corner, you're already set. Otherwise, you'll need a new Arizona Travel ID to get through TSA security.
To get a new ID you'll need to show a birth certificate or passport, Social Security information and proof of Arizona residency. New cards cost $25.
