The Salt River Project is bringing the state’s biggest battery to the Little Rainbow Valley, an area south of Buckeye that will become an integral part of the utility’s plan to add 1,000 megawatts of solar to its energy supply.
Just to put that into perspective, one megawatt of energy is enough to power about 250 homes.
It’s a goal SRP intends to reach by 2025 as it strives to reduce reliance on natural gas. The battery will be built at a scale that just doesn’t exist on the state’s grid today.
To put the move into context, The Show talked to Brandon Cheshire, president of the Arizona Solar Energy Industries Association and founder of SunHarvest Solar.
