University Of Arizona Disowns Fraternity After Abuse Allegations

The University of Arizona took away the official recognition of the Theta Chi fraternity last week.

The move came after a student threatened to file a lawsuit against the university, laying out a pattern of abuse by the fraternity, according to the Arizona Daily Star. The student said he suffered a chemical burn in his eye and a blood infection due to hazing.

The Star also reported that Theta Chi is not alone. Since 2012, 11 other fraternities have lost recognition at the school for various reasons, from hazing to alcohol and violence or misuse of funds.

So, where does all of that leave Greek life at the university? For that, The Show spoke with Kendal Washington White, the university’s vice provost for campus life and dean of students.
