Researchers Discover Nuanced Connection Between Climate Change And Immigration

As we watch the migrant crisis play out on the border, the arriving population looks a bit different than it has in the past.

Instead of largely Mexican nationals, often young men seeking work, this time around we’re seeing a lot of families from Central America.

A lot has been said about the factors driving these people to flee their homes and embark on a dangerous journey north, but one common answer is climate change.

Climate scientists at the University of Arizona, however, wanted to know if there was research is to support that claim. Researchers like graduate student Talia Anderson took a localized approach to measuring these kinds of climate changes, and what they found was more nuanced than the popular narrative.
