Winter Storm Causes Several Closures In Northern Arizona

A winter storm closed multiple stretches of highway in northern Arizona on Friday morning. Drivers are urged to stay off roads and delay their travel if possible.

The Arizona Department of Transportation has been closed I-40 between U.S. 93 and Winslow and I-17 Northbound from Stoneman Lake Road to the I-40 Westbound. They have since reopened.

Heavy snow in the area also shutdown State Route 87 between Payson and Winslow.

David Rookhuyzen with ADOT said the weather has also affected State Routes 89, 89-A, 260 and 66.

“If you can stay put, wait for the storm to pass," Rookhuyzen said. "If you do have to travel the biggest key is to slow down. Drive according to the road conditions. Be aware that the road is gonna be slick. It’s gonna be wet in many locations as you head north.”

Rookhuyzen said there’s not yet an estimate for when those roads will reopen.
