While some of the six million annual visitors to the Grand Canyon like to unplug while they're at the park, many have complained about the poor cell service. It's also a problem for the first responders, business owners and teachers trying to do their jobs on the North and South Rims of the park.
The National Park Services plan evaluates the impacts of five additional telecommunications towers. Park officials also propose installing small-cell technology at popular visitor sites, microwave antennas, and fiber optic cable to link the park to the broader wireless network.
The public has until Jan. 6 to comment on the plan. If approved, the plan would still have to pass an environmental assessment.
