There’s a new mayor in Tucson.

Regina Romero is the city’s first Latina chief executive. She was sworn in Monday and thanked voters who joined her in what she called a “historic journey.”

“I’d like to thank the voters of the city of Tucson that have entrusted not just me but us…us…our council with taking bold steps to lead our city in the right direction for all," Romero said.

The former Tucson City Council member defeated independent Edward Ackerley in November, earning over 57% of the vote in the heavily Democratic city.
