Foster Mom: Being A Foster Parent Is All About Sacrifice

When we hear a story about a child in the foster care system being reunited with their family, it’s usually a happy one, but there’s another side to that story: The loss experienced by the foster family who cared for that child in the meantime.

It’s a different kind of grief than many families who lose a child experience because they knew it was the goal all along. Being a foster parent, according to The Show's guest, is all about sacrifice.

Maggie Zehring is a writer, blogger, foster care advocate and mother of three. In a recent piece for Raising Arizona Kids magazine, she writes about the experience of losing a fourth child, a boy she and her husband fostered until just before his second birthday, when he was reunited with his birth family.

She shared more about her experience recently with The Show and why she and her husband decided to become foster parents to begin with.
