A multimillion dollar jackpot winner will never see those winnings.
The winning ticket for a $14.6 million jackpot was never returned to the Arizona Lottery. The ticket was purchased at a Circle K in Goodyear, and matched all six numbers in a game called The Pick on June 5. But no claim was made during the 180-day window for the winner to take home the prize.
A spokesman for the Arizona Lottery told NBC News the ticket set a new record for the largest ever unclaimed jackpot, easily exceeding the previous high of $4 million for a jackpot drawn in 1999.
Now the $14.6 million will help fund programs for abused children and for Native American education efforts. It will also help pay out winnings in other lottery games.
