Phoenix Heard Museum Exhibitions Featuring Indigenous Female Artists

On Friday, the Heard Museum is launching the first in a series of exhibitions that will take place over the next five years and push the museum further in a new direction.

It’s the opening of Maria Hupfield's Nine Years Towards the Sun, and it will be the first of five solo exhibitions the museum will do featuring indigenous women and women-identifying artists.

It’s the most contemporary exhibition the museum has ever done in its 90-year history, according to fine arts curator Erin Joyce. The Show's Lauren Gilger went to the Heard on Thursday for a preview.

The Show also spoke with conceptual performance artist Maria Hupfield.
