University Of Phoenix To Pay $191 Million As Part Of FTC Settlement

The University of Phoenix will pay $191 million as part of a settlement with the Federal Trade Commission — and just over $140 million of that will be used to cancel student debt.

The FTC says the for-profit school used deceptive advertising to falsely claim it had job-placement relationships with several high-profile companies, such as Microsoft and Twitter.

Rachel Leingang, the  Arizona Republic’s higher education reporter, joined The Show to talk about the settlement, the advertisements in question and what they contained that the FTC said was deceptive.

Mark Brodie is a co-host of The Show, KJZZ’s locally produced news magazine. Since starting at KJZZ in 2002, Brodie has been a host, reporter and producer, including several years covering the Arizona Legislature, based at the Capitol.
