MEXICO CITY — Notorious Mexican drug kingpin Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán might be behind bars, but the cartels are still operating. And the U.S. government is now offering a reward to capture the leader of a criminal organization based in Mexico.
A $5 million reward will go to anyone who can provide information that may lead to the arrest of Fausto Isidro Meza-Flores.
Meza-Flores, known as “el Chapo Isidro” ("chapo" stands for "shorty" in some parts of Mexico), is the alleged leader of the Transnational Criminal Organization, a major drug trafficking cartel. He has been accused by the U.S. Department of Justice of illegally trading drugs and weapons.
The hunt for “el Chapo Isidro” extends to Mexico and comes days after the U.S. and Mexican governments discussed new steps to fight and stop organized crime between the two nations.
