Almost $500 Million For Public Lands Acquisition Fund Included In Budget Deal

The Appropriations package federal negotiators released Monday included $495 million for the Land and Water Conservation Fund. It’s an increase over last fiscal year of about 13%.

The fund provides money for states, municipalities and federal agencies to buy land.

The deal doesn’t, however, include permanent funding for the Land and Water Conservation Fund. Advocates have been pushing for that, at $900 million.

The Trump administration, meanwhile, had proposed drastically cutting the fund.

It’s expected the House of Representatives will pass the budget bill on Tuesday and then the Senate will pass it later this week.
