One year ago, driverless cars put on Arizona roads by Waymo were deemed cautious and clunky — albeit impressive — in a headline in the Arizona Republic.
Reporter Ryan Randazzo recounted a moment when the vehicle oh-so-slowly rolled toward the scene of a car accident, moving awkwardly and perhaps a little too cautiously as other vehicles with living, breathing drivers behind the wheels made it around the area much more quickly.
The Show's Lauren Gilger had a similar experience in her own Waymo ride-along last year. But now it seems those are apparently the days of Waymo past.
Last week, Randazzo got his first opportunity to ride in a totally driverless Waymo vehicle since that interaction, and this time around, he says he had a very different experience.
