Parts Of Sonora Get White Christmas

As in Arizona, some high-elevation parts of Sonora — its neighbor to the south — are also enjoying a white Christmas.

Video shows snow falling Christmas Eve in and near the roughly mile-high mining town of Cananea, an hour southwest of Bisbee.

Forecasters with the National Water Commission said sleet and snow was likely in the high sierra of Sonora and neighboring Chihuahua on both Dec. 24 and Christmas Day. A cold front passing through the state is expected to bring high winds and rains.

There was also a different sort of white Christmas in the southern Mexican state of Puebla.

Ash fell on several towns after low-intensity exhalations from the iconic volcano Popocatépetl, according to the National Disaster Prevention Center.
