Flagstaff Will Pick Up Old Christmas Trees Jan. 6

The city of Flagstaff is reminding residents that its annual “treecycling” program will be picking up trees curbside Jan. 6.

Dylan Lenzen, manager of the program, said the trees are shredded into chips for mulch and soil-like material that’s required to be deposited each day on top of landfills.

“It’s a really beneficial use for us. It saves us that investment in that material and also gives some useful life for a tree beyond its use for Christmas.”

Lenzen said those who live in dwellings that don’t offer tree pickup can take theirs to one of two locations in Flagstaff:

  • Old Public Works Yard: 419 N. Mogollon St.
  • Continental Little League Field: 5700 E. Old Walnut Canyon Road.

All ornaments, lights and tinsel must be removed before putting the trees out for collection.

Many  municipalities in the Phoenix metro region also offer similar services.
