Phoenix Seeks Proposals To Reopen Mexico Trade Offices

Phoenix closed trade offices in two Mexican cities in 2019, and now officials say they’re looking for a firm to reopen them for much cheaper.

The Phoenix trade offices in Mexico City and the Sonoran capital Hermosillo closed recently. City officials have sent out a request for proposals from firms to reopen one or both of them.

City records say Phoenix had been spending more than $185,000 a year for trade help in Mexico. But Phoenix expects to pay much less going forward because the new work would include fewer services.

A Phoenix spokesman says the city council approved seeking out new proposals with a bigger focus on business-to-business relations.

A contract, if awarded, would be good for one year. Jan. 30 is the deadline to submit a bid.
