Deputies in Pima County have arrested a person they say is connected to the death of a man whose remains were found in Pima Canyon. The remains may have been partially eaten by mountain lions.

Pima County Sheriff’s Deputy James Allerton says the suspect, Daylan Jacob Thornton, was arrested on charges related to auto theft.

“The vehicle involved in this theft belongs to a Steven Mark Brashear," Allerton said. "Brashear was reported missing to the Oro Valley Police in December of last year, 2019. Daylan Thorton has since been identified as a person of interest in the investigation into the remains that were discovered in Pima Canyon earlier this week.”

The remains found have not been confirmed to be those of Brashear, but Allerton says the Sheriff’s Department is working to identify them.
