How Universities Could Start Paying NCAA Student-Athletes

Trevor Lawrence Clemson Football Fiesta Bowl Ohio State
Clemson sophomore quarterback Trevor Lawrence prepares for the snap against Ohio State in the Fiesta Bowl in Glendale on Dec. 28, 2019.

Clemson and Louisiana State University will face each other in New Orleans tonight for the College Football Playoff National Championship.

The matchup comes as the NCAA is under increasing pressure to let athletes benefit from playing college sports. Last fall, California passed a law letting college athletes benefit from the use of their likeness in marketing. Several other states are considering similar laws, as is Congress.
