Arizonans could soon be spending much more on groceries, according to the latest survey from the Arizona Farm Bureau. The cost of a typical basket of 16 items has risen 23% in the past year.
The price of 14 of the 16 items has increased by at least 15%. That could be a result of supply and demand.
Cattle inventory is on the decline as ranchers reduce their herds, according to the national livestock publication Drovers.
The farm bureau’s survey found that a pound of ground beef costs shoppers 33% more than it did last year.
But the increases aren’t limited to beef: Chicken breasts cost 15% more, orange juice is up 28%, eggs 52% and bread has gone up 83%.
