If you’re planning to drive anywhere in central Phoenix, south Scottsdale or north Tempe on Sunday — don’t.
The 2020 Rock 'n' Roll Marathon will cause dozens of major road closures all the way from Seventh Avenue in Phoenix to McClintock Drive in Tempe. Tempe Police spokesperson Detective Natalie Barela says the closures will start early.
“Very very early Sunday morning, approximately 3-4 o’clock in the morning, we’ll start with those road closures," she said. "There’ll be several road closures. There’s gonna be several thousand runners and several thousand spectators. So we just as that you continue to follow us on twitter and we’ll advise and post different traffic restrictions.”
The races will start at 7:50 a.m., and the roads will open on a rolling basis as the last runners pass the area and support equipment is moved. In addition to the marathon, the Women’s March is planned for 10 a.m. at the state Capitol.
