Childhood Flu Exposure Could Impact How Well We Fight Illness As Adults

Arizona health officials have reported more cases of flu this season than last. As of earlier this month, there were nearly twice as many reported cases in 2019-20 as the season before.

And new research suggests our childhoods might be more important than we thought when it comes to fighting the flu.

Michael Worobey says our ability to fend off the illness may depend on the strain of flu we were first exposed to as kids.

Worobey is head of the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of Arizona, and he joined The Show.
