Holocaust Instruction Bill Passes House Education Committee

A bill that would require students to learn about the Holocaust and other genocides passed the House Education Committee on Monday.

The bill calls for seventh through 12th-graders to be taught about those events at least twice before graduating high school.

Rabbi Ephraim Weiss delivered a prayer on the house floor to mark the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz.

“Please do not allow it to be forgotten from our history as the death and suffering of so many cannot have been for naught," Weiss said.

The legislation follows a spike in antisemitic crime across the country. It now goes to the House Rules Committee.
