The Arizona Department of Education accidentally revealed the names of parents who hold Empowerment Scholarship Accounts (ESA) for their children, a likely violation of federal law.
Records released to Arizona Capitol Times reporter Dillon Rosenblatt contained a hyperlinked email beneath apparent redactions, an unusual detail that caught Rosenblatt’s attention and led an editor to look closer.
Now, some lawmakers and ESA advocates want the error investigated and the program removed from the department’s jurisdiction.
The Goldwater Institute has already filed a lawsuit against the department over its alleged mismanagement of the program, and Matt Beienburg believes this is just the latest example of that.
Beienburg, the Goldwater Institute’s director of education policy, joined The Show to talk about the suit.
