As of Monday, some Native American tribes can apply to receive faster internet services.
The Federal Communications Commission recently released a program for federally recognized tribes to apply for licenses that could improve or create internet service in rural areas. This comes after Native Americans across the Western United States pushed for unassigned, midband spectrum licenses.
This service intends to reach the one-third of Native Americans living on reservations that do not have access to high-speed internet service.
The FCC is currently meeting with tribal leaders to explain the licensing process. Tribes have been given priority access to the application until Aug. 3.
