Arizona Drivers Could Soon Pay Traffic Fines With Community Service

Arizona drivers who are fined for traffic violations could soon have another option for paying their fines.

On Wednesday, the House Judiciary Committee voted to approve legislation allowing those drivers to work off at least part of their fine.

The measure was crafted by Representative Leo Biasiucci. He proposes drivers could perform community service at $10 an hour for up to half of the amount of the fine.

“The last thing we want to see happen is situations where people are getting their car towed for a simple traffic violation because they couldn't afford to pay it," he said.

The measure needs constitutional review before it goes to the full House.
