New Senior Psychiatric Hospital Plans To Open In Gilbert

A new behavioral hospital is planned for Gilbert to treat senior patients with psychiatric disorders. The facility would target a growing need for geriatric healthcare in Arizona when it opens later this year.

The Sana Behavioral Hospital would open its second Arizona location and is planned near the Mercy Gilbert Medical Center on South Val Vista Drive.

Designed to assist patients aged 55 years or older, the facility will address a variety of senior mental health problems including depression, psychosis and dementia. Dr. Elizabeth Caspian is the medical director at Sana Hospital’s Prescott location.

“Communities need to get together and see this is an opportunity to set up your community to accommodate the growing needs of seniors and to be senior friendly," Caspian said.

She notes additional facilities are crucial as more individuals with psychiatric needs grow older.

The AARP says more than 10,000 people turn 65 years old every day, and more geriatric health facilities like Sana will help meet the increased demand for services.
