Tucson's Bishop Giving Up His Home For Adults With Disabilities

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Tucson is renovating the bishop's former 7,200-square-foot house for adults with disabilities. More than $150,000 is going into renovations.

Built in the 1960s, the residence has several bedrooms and communal areas, according to a diocese spokeswoman. Peg Harmon, the CEO of Catholic Communities Services of Southern Arizona, explained why this design can benefit disabled adults.

"You know, a standard size home is often a little small when you have one or two folks using wheelchairs or other assistive equipment," said Harmon. "So one wonderful part about this building is the size of the building."

Bishop Edward Weisenburger has moved to a smaller home provided by a donor.

Renovations should be completed in three to four months.
