Earlier this week, the World Health Organization explained the official abbreviation for the coronavirus is "COVID-19." The name seemed benign to most, except those familiar with the commercial audio/visual cable and connector industry.
Covid is also a Tempe-based company, and The Show spoke with CEO Norm Carson about what makes his company different than a viral epidemic.
“We’re actually a manufacturer of high quality audio/visual cables and connectors and interfacing products," Carson said. "You would see them used in educational facilities, museums, boardrooms, medical facilities across the country.”
From a marketing standpoint, this could be a catastrophic coincidence, but Carson says the response has been positive.
“It’s definitely been an interesting couple of days ... when the information first came out, we got a lot of requests from media outlets for comments," Carson said. "But overall, it's been OK. We’ve gotten a lot of support from our clients and customers ... Our covid.com site — we’re getting hits through the roof."
"So we’re getting lots of people that wanna talk about it but over all, our customers, our suppliers, and clients and people we know have been very supportive of everything.”
