Word S3 E2: NaHaiWriMo 2020 — Part 2

KJZZ's  second annual Haiku Writing Contest is underway as we celebrate NaHaiWriMo (National Haiku Writing Month). It's the brainchild of Sammamish, Washington writer  Michael Dylan Welch.

We're teaming up with  The Show again for the contest and offering some spirited discussions about haiku on episodes of Word this month. Hurry! The deadline for entries is Feb. 27. You can even record your entry with the Open Mic feature on the KJZZ mobile app.

We lead off this episode with  Marshall Hryciuk. He's a Toronto-based writer with an Arizona connection, like many Canadians.  Unlike many, he is an award-winning poet who specializes in haiku.

Among his many publications, Marshall is author of the book "From Arizona to Crete" which contains multiple examples of the art form.

As part of our mission to represent the literary arts in the state and the region, we also caught up with haiku enthusiast  Scott Wiggerman. He's an Albuquerque, NM-based poet who has been writing haiku for many years.

Finally, we bring it back home to The Valley with Kristi Garboushian, a poet and writer who maintains a blog called,  That Asian-Looking Chick.

If you have a suggestion for a future show or a comment please send an email to  [email protected].

Thanks for  supporting public radio as well as the literary arts in the state and the region!
