Arizona Corporation Commission Considers Changing Rules Regarding Where You Get Your Electricity

Right now in Arizona, none of us have a choice in where we get our electricity. In the Phoenix area, it’s either APS or SRP that we send our payments to each month.

But now the Arizona Corporation Commission is considering changing that rule. The body, which regulates utilities, is holding another round of talks today on electric retail competition, or the deregulation of state-sanctioned monopolies that dictate where we all get our electricity.

Now, if your head just started spinning from wonkiness, don’t worry — we’ve got an expert to tell us what exactly is being considered by utility regulators — and how it affects customers.

Commissioner Justin Olson co-authored two sets of draft rules that will be up for discussion by his colleagues and stakeholders Tuesday.

The Show has also reached out to APS to hear their position on deregulation.
