What Is The Economic Potential Behind Infill Zones?

A blighted Peoria landmark is slated for demolition. Smitty’s grocery store has stood vacant since 1997 and has become a safety hazard and is taking space being courted by developers.

It is a scene replicated across the region, through every city in the Valley — unused vacant lots, abandoned buildings and restricted zoning and usage codes create pockets of properties that present safety hazards, develop crime zones and feed the “broken window” notions that set communities back.

The Show spoke with Tim Sprague, a principal with Habitat Metro, a Phoenix-based infill development firm about these infill zones and the economic potential behind them.
