Health Officials: Flu Vaccine Working Better This Season

As of Monday,  there have been 14 cases of the coronavirus in the United States, with one of those cases located in Arizona.

However, the flu is much more widespread, as the CDC reports nearly 23,000 cases here in Arizona. But unlike the coronavirus, health officials have worked to formulate a vaccine against the flu’s most widely circulating strains.

Terri Farneti is a public health coordinator for Yavapai Community Health Services.

"The vaccine effectiveness against any flu virus is 45%," said Farneti, "which means it is working better than the vaccines released each flu season since 2015-2016."

Although the flu season is halfway over, health officials still recommend people get the flu vaccine.
