Earlier this week on The Show, Arizona Corporation Commissioner Justin Olson presented a potential plan for electric retail competition, otherwise known as the deregulation of state-regulated electric utility monopolies like APS and SRP.
In a sentence, it would mean that customers — like all of us — would be able to choose from which company we want to buy our electricity. Some say it will make for cheaper options for customers, but others say that’s not a guarantee.
Bill Malcolm represents AARP, and he was in Arizona this week to present testimony against Commissioner Olson’s idea that we pursue deregulation. Malcolm is senior legislative representative for AARP in Washington, D.C.
