An apparent Sunday afternoon shootout on the road to the popular Sonoran beach town of Kino Bay left two dead.
A little after 5 p.m. Sunday, state authorities got reports of a car chase and shootout near Miguel Aleman, a town between the Sonoran capital Hermosillo and Kino on Highway 100.
A black Lincoln Navigator riddled with bullet holes was found with a wounded woman inside, along with a child and infant, both uninjured, according to information from the Sonoran State Attorney’s Office. The driver was later found unharmed.
Farther down the road to Kino, a Volkswagen Jetta had run off the road during the chase. A 60-year-old man was found dead inside, along with a seriously injured woman who died later Sunday. The state attorney is investigating the incident.
There was another shootout Sunday on the interstate between Guaymas and Ciudad Obregon. An apparent kidnapping left two wounded, one gravely, at a tire shop along the highway, according to authorities.
