Amy Silverman's 'Raising Phoenix': Resist. Agitate. Embroider.

Longtime Valley journalist Amy Silverman writes a monthly column for Phoenix Magazine, called “Raising Phoenix.”

This month, Amy wrote about her love of embroidery — particularly political embroidery. And she brought in a friend into the KJZZ studio, textile artist Ann Morton.

Morton is the creator of a project called the Violet Protest, a public effort to send 50 hand-made textile squares to each and every member of Congress — and to do it with both blue and red materials.

With the help of an ironing board in the studio, The Show's Lauren Gilger got to make a square for the project.

Morton's work is just one example of the kind of blending of politics and embroidery that Silverman  wrote about in Phoenix Magazine this month. For her, it all began when she was looking for a hobby a few years ago.
