Arizona Universities Canceling Study Abroad Programs In 4 Countries

The coronavirus continues to affect study-abroad programs at Arizona universities as four countries are now classified as COVID-19 level-three warning zones.

Students currently studying abroad are required to return from China, South Korea, Italy and Iran as part of conditions made by Arizona State University, Northern Arizona University and University of Arizona in accordance with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines.

Summer programs in those countries have been called off, and future programs in Europe and Asia are at risk but not all students have to completely abandon their trip.

NAU is prepared to offer alternatives.

“It is important to note that at this point, the majority of NAU students returning to the United States from Italy, South Korea and China are not returning to Flagstaff, but choosing to either study abroad in another location or returning to their homes in other U.S. cities," said Daniel Palm, associate director of global initiatives at NAU.

The university has given its students the option to complete online courses at home, and many have already relocated to Australia, Thailand and Mexico.
