The remaining top presidential candidates on the Democratic side — Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders — along with President Trump are all at least 70 years old. Leaders like Nancy Pelosi and Mitch McConnell fall into that same category.
So that may make it seem as though leaders of the next couple of generations behind that are simply not having impacts as leaders.
A new book by journalist Charlotte Alter flips that narrative, though, by focusing on a group of 10 young politicians — including Mayor Pete Buttigieg and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez — who are moving up the ladder and preparing themselves to have a greater say in determining the country’s direction.
The name of the book is "The Ones We’ve Been Waiting for: How a New Generation of Leaders Will Transform America."
The Show spoke with Alter and started by asking her whether there’s a greater need now for younger politicians to take the reins, considering the advanced ages of many of the country’s current leaders.
