As many Arizonans prepare to hunker down amid the coronavirus pandemic, they’re hitting grocery stores and clearing out inventory.
But one grocery store is trying to help senior citizens get what they need during this time.
On Wednesday, Bashas' opened their doors at 5 a.m. so Arizonans 65 and older could shop for food and other supplies. The Arizona Republic reported that shoppers started lining up around 4 a.m. and some left empty handed.
Many seniors also fear being exposed to the virus.
Duet is a nonprofit organization that works with homebound seniors.
Volunteers with that organization are now trying to shop for clients who are not leaving their homes.
And Benevilla, another nonprofit in the West Valley, is looking for additional volunteers since many of their current volunteers are seniors themselves.
